Abstract
Introduction: Dentistry procedures are
frequently linked to a difficult approach for the dental practitioner in vulnerable
population due to poor compliance and systemic problems valuable in this
population.
Aim: Our aim is to present and highlight the
usefulness of laser assisted protocols for dental care in the vulnerable
population we treated.
Patients and methods: Patients treated at the
UOS of odontostomatology and Maxillo-Facial
Surgery of the Hospital of Piacenza (Italy) are carriers of congenital and
acquired disorders mostly involving cognitive, physical, psychiatric and
medical field and able to create some difficulty during dental care procedures.
We describe cases treated with diode laser (Lasersmile - Fotona - Slovenia)
and Er:YAG laser (Lightwalker - Fotona - Slovenia)
for procedures of conservative dentistry and oral surgery.
Results: Laser-assisted approach allowed us
to obtain a greater compliance by our special needs patients giving us the
possibility to reduce complications and post intervention pain, improving their
quality of life.
Conclusions: Laser-assisted techniques could
represent a better and easier therapeutical option
for special care patients.
