Abstract
Introduction: early detection of
interproximal caries is important for prevention and conservative treatment. In
clinic, because of the lack of direct vision and tactile in inter dental area,
usually Para clinical examination such as bitewing and digital radiography uses
caries detection.
Aim of study: The aim of this study was to
evaluate the sensivity of laser fluorescence (LF)
using Diagnodent pen compared to conventional
Bitewing (BW) and Digital Radiography (DR).
Materials and Methods: 18 primary molars in
12 children (aged 8-12 years), which were indicated for extraction, were
included. After obtaining consent from parents, samples evaluated for dental
caries using Diagnodent, bitewing radiographs and
digital radiography. Histologic examination was performed after the teeth were
examined by all the three methods and served as the gold standard.
Result: the values
obtained for the sensitivity, specificity of LF were 85.19 and 84.34% , for bitewing were 81.48 and 81.93% and for digital
radiography 48.15% and 49.40%.
Conclusion: Diagnodent showed higher sensitivity and specificity as compared with other conventional methods for detection of interproximal caries.
