Abstract
The purpose of this research is a blibliographic review to be able to establish a working
protocol in non-surgical laser assisted treatment in periodontal disease.
Bibliographical
review in paper and digital format during the last decade; a comprehensive
computer-based search combining the same key words in several databases. The descriptors used were laser,
periodontal disease, non surgical periodontal treatment and treatment protocol.
When we introduced treatment protocol we didn' t find any result. The first search included laser and
periodontal disease, the second search non surgical treatment and laser. We
applied some limits: review, text in English, published in the last 10 years,
and all the reviewed researches were full text; The
duplicate papers were excluded.
In none of the reviewed papers the aim was to
establish a guideline or protocol, the parameters employed in the several
studies by the differents researches groups still
don' t follow a consensual. There are different methods, different wavelengts, but laser theraphy
need to stablish guidelines for standarizing
the work in the clinical laser comunity.
Conclusion: We have noticed there is a great
necessity to do protocolized
clinical studies to established a working guideline.
The CO2 laser is not suitable for nonsurgical pocket
applications; the Nd:YAG and
diode has been recommended for bacteria elimination in combination with
mechanical instrumentation. Erbium lasers could be more apropiatte
for surgical pocket.
